Animals have been a part of the Indonesians' traditional live since early times. People keep animals both for pleasure and companionship as pets and for breeding. Traditional settlements with large yard often maintain harmony with their environment including animals. Even today, many houses, mostly in the rural areas, are still enlivened with the actions of pets living around them.
