Association of International Chemistry has been appointed by the International Committee (UNESCO+IUPAC) as Indonesia's official IYC representative. In order to celebrate the IYC, The Association of Indonesian Chemistry is holding a series of innauguration of the International Year of Chemistry by high officials of State, namely, the launching of the International Year of Chemistry stamp series, an international seminar, book exhibition by Indonesian chemist, lecture from Nobel prize winner 1988 of Germany (Prof. Robert Huber), discussion of chemistry in daily life, open house chemistry majoring open house at various universities, etc. In connection with the launching of the International Year of Chemistry stamp series, the committee has chosen the compound Artoindonesianin C as the finding of the research group of organic chemistry of natural materials from ITB as the main design of stamp in addition to the logo the International Year of Chemistry (IYC). Artoindonesianin C is a compound belonging to the Santon compound group isolated from Artocarpus leysmannii Miq, one-nangkaan jackfruit plants (Moraceae) endemic to Wallacea are well known in Bugis society as tipulu. Wallacea is a biogeographic region of a group of Indonesian islands separated by deep water between Asia and Australia. The region with a total area of about 338 thousands km2 has unique flora and fauna biodiversity in the world, of which there are plants endemic to the approximately 1500 species. The compound of Artoindonesiain C published by the research group Syamsul Arifin Achmad from ITB (Bandung Institute of Technology) in the Journal of Natural Products in 2000 was synthesized naturally in the tipulu plant through further reaction in flavonoid biosynthesis, where the aromatic ring of the compound in contracted to produce five non-aromatic rings. Artoindonesianin C shows the sophistication of natural reactions that occurs in the Sulawesi region, a region most atractive to study the diodiversity of the world.
