"GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY OF UNIVERSITY OF INDONESIA"
The University of Indonesia (UI) was officially established on February 2, 1950 although its history dates back to 1851, when Javanese Medical School (Sekolah Dokter Jawa) was established and later was promoted to become STOVIA 1902. The Medical College (Geneeskundige Hoogeschool) was founded at Jalan Salemba Raya 6, Jakarta in 1927. It became the Medical Faculty of UI, the first in the country, In 1947, the Dutch Administration established Universiteit van Indoneisie until it became Universiteit Indonesia on February 2, 1950. Other facilties in the cities of Surabaya, Makassar, Bandung and Bogor were gradually released, which then became the embryo of new universities at respective places. Today, with around 39,000 students at its campus in depok, 'the Campus of Struggle' strives to become a research university.
