The modern olympic games was held for the first time in Athens, Greece in 1896 thanks to Baron de Coubertin (1862-1937), a Frenhman who renewed and revived the rules of the ancient Greek Olympics which had been held since 776 BC. Since the first time in Athens, the games have been held every four years. Amateur athletes from all over the world take part in the games, exclaiming the motto "Citius-Altius-Fortius" which means "Swifter-Higher-Stronger".
